The McComb Depot Railroad Museum was opened in 2003 after several years of hard work by dedicated volunteers, most of whom are themselves retired railroad workers. The Museum, a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt corporation, is housed in the old baggage room of the Illinois Central passenger Depot in downtown McComb, a refurbished 1901 building. The museum's collections consist of over 1,500 pieces of catalogued memorabilia and nine pieces of rolling stock on nearby rail siding. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected to serve staggered three-year terms. The board members serve the organization in various capacities, fulfilling different responsibilities at various times. Additionally, the organization benefits from a large pool of talented, dedicated, hard-working volunteers.
